## Description

IntelliChlor Salt Chlorinator uses common table salt to produce all the chlorine a pool needs, safely, effectively, and automatically. Same sanitation performance as manual chlorine addition without the drawbacks. No need for customers to buy, transport and store chlorine compounds. Full diagnostic capabilities, including cell life tracking that communicates remaining hours of cell life in real-time. Captures all performance data daily (production settings, hours of operation, chlorine output, cell cleaning cycles, salt readings, and water temperature averages). Push-button operation and easy-to-view displays enable fast checking of salt levels, cell cleanliness, sanitizer output, and water flow. Automatic shut-off feature protects the unit and prolongs cell life under low water temperature conditions. On-time cycling prevents calcium and scale build-up to maximize cell life. Review: Very happy with my Pentair IntelliChlor! If this one lasts as long as our last one did, I will be ecstatic! After our original Pentair unit slowly faded beginning mid-summer 2014 (cell indicator light continuously flashing), it was still able to maintain chlorine at proper levels for the remainder of the season and even limped along over the subsequent winter (we live in the sunny south and don't winterize our pool). However, at start-up this year it was finally done--even blew the fuse in the Power Center. After replacing the fuse and ensuring I couldn't squeeze any more life out of our original unit, it was a no-brainer deciding to buy another IntelliChlor: 1) E-Z repair--remove and replace (using existing Power Center); 2) cheaper than changing systems (again, same Power Center); and 3) was very pleased with original unit that kept our pool beautiful for nine seasons (Did I mention we don't winterize? Pump runs year-round, less operating hours and reduced chlorine output selected on unit, but runs all winter) The only slightly picky technical thing I would mention is that the Control Panel (where indicator lights are located) will be "upside down" when installed in correct flow direction due to a Pentair redesign to support vertical mounting of the unit. Read online elsewhere that it is possible to "flip" the control panel but chose not to because I didn't want to risk damaging the housing; and besides with our pump configuration it's still easy to read. Also have to mention the quality construction of this unit matched the quality of original installed with our pool (pleasant surprise when replacing an expensive equipment item). And the streamlined functionality of this unit, evidently part of the redesign, would seem to indicate Pentair invests in and strives to improve their product line. Unless something unforeseen happens--I'm a dedicated Pentair customer!

## Questions & Answers

**Q: does is come with union joints?**
A: If the system calls for an IC-40, what model did you use to replace it.  The price for the ic-40 model is a joke. I bought this model in 2015 for $580 now they are $1400. If you can possibly wait till supply catches up to demand, do so. I can’t .

**Q: For the IC40 is this a complete unit with an 8 ft. cord?**
A: This unit comes complete with the cord.  All you have to do with this unit is remove the unit from the pipes, unplug the old unit, and install the new unit.  It took me less than three minutes to exchange the units.  Very easy to change out the units.

**Q: how do you turn the unit off?**
A: I use a separate timer similar to a pool pump or hot water heater timer (needs to be outdoor rated of course). I set the timer to turn the unit on after the pool pump is running and to shut off before the pool pump does. In the manual they say tie it in to the same timer used for the pool pump. I did that originally until I came out one morning and found the pvc on the inlet side had blown out and something had caused the titanium plates inside the unit to bow out. The consensus is the flow sensor failed (it happens), the unit was making chlorine when the pump shut off, chlorine gas got trapped on the inlet side, when the pump turned on the next morning the gas caused the pipe to fail. I think my situation was a perfect storm (everything had to happen exactly the way it did). I added the timer to make sure water was flowing when the chlorine generator turned on. I'm assuming you could also use Pentair's Easytouch or Intellitouch controllers since the generator plugs into those controllers.

**Q: is the replacement cell for the c40 chorine gen. has to be mounted upside down compared to my old cell..plus the new one looks like it has a cold wath**
A: All you have to do is pull off the plastic "FLOW" cover and rotate the flow switch / sensor 180 degrees. Depending on how tightened down it is you may want to pull it (sensor) out, re-tape it and install it facing the opposite direction so it can be mounted to read easier and is sealed. JUST REMEMBER YOU ARE DEALING WITH PLASTIC THREADS HERE, do not over tighten.  Now the genius who designed the cover marked "FLOW" with the arrow on it SHOULD have just made a slot on BOTH sides of the cover so it could be mounted either way. SO, you can either be creative with a small saw and cut your own slot, or just put it back on with it pointing in the wrong direction and confuse anyone who looks at it besides yourself. ;)The COLD led is just until water hits 55 or 65 degrees. No salt systems work "well" with water colder than that. Typically, if water is that cold algae won't grow anyway. But, if water got warm then cooled off again you might already have a little algae left over.

I have owned several chlorine generators Hayward/goldline, jandy, Pentair is by far the best design. Flow detection built into the device, all electronics built into the device, self cleaning very nice easy to use controls. That being said. I always shelter this product from the sun with a shade or in a shed. If having problems with chlorine generators you are not monitoring your acid levels properly. These generate a base condition while operating naturally causing scale on the parts and on your tile. This must be offset with constant addition of acid to balance. Personally I have found the Pentair acid injection system to be simple and it integrates with this cell perfectly giving you more control over the cell. Fill it with 4 gallons of acid set it and forget it. Fairly cheap and it really makes the pool nearly maintenence free. Bonus is that if installed right it injects the acid right infront of the chlorine cell giving the cell a little help.
