I think it's a bother for just one egg, but if you have multiple eggs needing to be wedged, this will do the trick quickly and efficiently. Easy to use, easy to clean (hand washing), easy to store away, and reasonably sturdy. I haven't used it on anything but hard cooked eggs, but it might work for other small, soft foods. I'd approach that process with care.
