No, you shouldn't have any issues with smearing when using the eraser on the 13-series pencils. We specially designed the erasers to work well with our paper. **Q: Could I buy the lead and use it in a different pencil?** A: Any pencil body that takes 1.3mm lead will work. In my opinion, the pencil is the best part of the system. I replaced the expensive Rite in the Rain lead and use 2B 1.3mm June Gold lead. I get 120 lead for about the price of 10 here on Amazon. **Q: do you plan on manufacturing your mechanical pencils in the usa?** A: It clearly says they are made in China.
