Comparing the Tamanishiki to brands like botan calrose, nishiki, kokubo, I can tell you that The Tamanishiki rice is a BETTER rice hands down. Now the Kagayaki Rice was Much better than the Tamanishiki because the Kagayaki was more polished than the Tamanishiki. So in my opinion Kagayaki is the BEST - top of the line, however Kagayaki cost a little more than the Tamanishiki. Tamanishiki would definitely be my choice if i didn't want to spend the extra money. My former roommate came from a Japanese family in Hawaii, and this was the brand she and her family always use, and I got hooked. I throw the rice in my zojirushi rice cooker after washing it, and it's perfect short grain rice every time. Perfect for spam musubi, rice and eggs and spam/Portugese sausage, or anything you might need rice for (unless you need long grain rice, in which case, don't use this). Its nice that the bag is resealable as well.
