Great item
My son showed me this as a Christmas gift idea, it came exactly as described, including everything that is listed to come with it. The only problem was the battery type listed, it lists C batteries in the description but it actually needs D batteries. It works great, he popped the batteries in and tested it out.

So much fun!
I read many of the reviews, including the negative ones and was a little hesitant to purchase this nerf gun, but went ahead, since it was a birthday present for my 4 year old son. (Who LOVES Nerf guns of any type) We have had no problems with the gun suddenly not working(to date we've had it 3 months). The only things I've noticed (which aren't a big deal) is that :1. From time to time, if you don't push the darts all the way into the belt, they can get stuck or jammed in the barrel of the gun. Its easy to dislodge them - just make sure you push the darts all the way into the belt and you won't have any problems.2. We can't seem to get the belt/ammo container that attaches to the side of the gun to stay put. If you nudge it or bump it just slightly it falls off. We just don't use it and the gun still works just fine.It is a bit heavy with the batteries in it, but my 4 year old seems to handle it just fine. So far we haven't had to replace the batteries. We just showed him how to turn off the gun after every use. He also chooses to manually cock the gun and fire it which saves on the batteries. This is only possible when you have the gun on the tripod. You can't cock it when you are carrying it around. We've also noticed that it works with the darts it comes with but also sucker darts.Other than a few issues, this gun is so much fun, even for the adults! We've had many nerf fights at our house and we all just end up laughing so hard. It makes the fight a little bit more fair for the 4 year old when he goes up against his older brother or his parents. A very fun toy! I'd recommend it to any boy or boy at heart that loves nerf guns.

Great Fun
My nine year old son and my thirteen year old son wanted this for Christmas. This is the pinnacle of nerf guns in our home. It is huge and it shoots a lot of bullets and it shoots them out fast. It has been a big hit in our house. This thing takes more time to load than it does to shoot. When you shoot your bullets it takes just a minute or less; to load it takes 3 or 4 minutes it seems. So if you are going to have a nerf war you need to probably have two or three of these around or else have several back up guns or extra strings of bullets to shoot with this gun. Otherwise it becomes a very short nerf war game. This is sturdy and is in fact quite heavy. It has held up to hours of play currently.Enjoy.

Not Worth It at Half the Price
This toy is a classic example of failure-prone over-engineering. The concept of the Nerf N-Strike Vulcan is very appealing - a rapid-fire machine gun capable of laying waste your adversaries with a hail of darts. The execution of the concept, however, fails.Problem #1: The gun is just too big and bulky, which makes it very unwieldy in a Nerf fight. The tripod stand doesn't help much either, as it can barely support the weight of the gun and has a tendency to detach. The six D battery power pack (!) further contributes to the weight problem.Problem #2: The gun jams - a lot. The cartidge feed mechanism and barrel are jam-prone. Successful rapid firing is critically sensitive to how tightly the darts are fit into the cartidges. Right out of the box, the gun couldn't make it through an entire belt, which was very frustrating.Problem #3: Reloading (which must be done carefully - see #2) takes time and stops the action. Yes, you could buy a spare cartridge belt, but this further adds to the expense, which brings us to:Problem #4: Its cost/value ratio does not compare favorably to other Nerf products: As one of my sons struggled to make the N-Strike work, my other son was having a ball with a Nerf Dart Tag Hyperfire Delux. Now that's value.

Great robot sentry gun
I took the gun apart and turned it into an automatic sentry gun. It's a great platform for experimenting with sensors and robotics. Since the gun can be fired by bypassing the safety switch, there are all kinds of fun ways to fire it without human intervention. I used an Arduino microcontroller and a relay circuit to trip the switch whenever someone gets too close to a distance sensor mounted on the barrel.Getting in requires unscrewing about forty-nine zillion screws, but beyond that it's very straightforward. The gun is nicely designed and hacker friendly. My only complaint is the battery box, which had a tendency to lose contact and misfire. I ended up soldering a power supply to it, as I was using the gun on a turret near a wall outlet.Tons of fun, works fine on its own, even better when it becomes your autonomous Nerf sentry!

What fun for my sons! We bought two, love them.
After a full busy day of play, these guns were the clear Christmas day hit. They played with them all day. Between the two guns we had no jamming issues or belt drive failures as others have reported. It is really incredible and funny to see these things raining down a h*llfire of darts down upon someone, or knocking over a tower of plastic cups. The tripod does snap off somewhat easily, but I think it is a safety design feature-- if a kid runs with the gun and falls, you want the tripod to fall off.The guns are quite heavy and big, but that too seems to be part of the attraction.UPDATE: Well, it is February, and they play with these about every other day, and they are still operating fine. So I'd say there isn't a quality issue with the gun we got.

Great Toy (oh, and fun for kids too!)
Bought the gun for my 6 yr old for xmas and he loves it, and no, the 6 D batteries didn't make it too heavy for him (not sure why a 7.5 yr old in a previous review had issues with the weight)...he runs around the house with it blasting away at the family. In fact my 3 yr old loves to fire the gun as well (oh, it is a bit heavy for her but she still is only 3). In terms of reliability, I've had no issues with it jamming or the battery life so I am not sure why others have (you need to insert the darts completely into the belt) but I would and have recommended this toy to everyone. I am going to buy two more so my 8 year old and I can blast back at the 6 yr old. Fun for all...best Nerf gun made today!
