I have to say that Newport knocked it out of the water again with this 86# thrust trolling motor. The power is awesome and the responsiveness going from forward to reverse to forward is fantastic. Due to my own ignorance I didn’t realize when I bought it that I would need 2 separate 12V batteries instead of one. You can run it off of one 12 V battery, but it will not even reach near the motors capacity. No complaints on its performance. If you have a smaller boat like I have, you may want to consider a 12 V trolling motor so you don’t have to deal with two batteries as weight can be a concern. When fully charged I can get about 2 1/2 mph out of her. Everything was fine for four months and then it started going downhill. First the breaker to the positive cable went out. As it happened, it was on a recall. Rust. That was easy to change. Most recently both of my plastic O-rings broke. The O-rings are responsible for the height of the propeller shaft. Then yesterday the nut that holds the wing nut in place to tighten or loosen the steering jammed simply because it is not Stainless Steel. I had to pay someone $130 to install both O Rings. Took him A good 45 minutes. Yes, Newport will send you the parts free but does not Assume responsibility for the labor to change. As a single female I cannot be expected to repair. Finally, although the web page writes motor is good for fresh and salt-water environments the Newport telephone rep said it’s necessary to remove after every use. I just very upset this motor is from China and very cheaply made.
