Writing is possible, but my penmanship suffers. I am able to use dressmaker shears while wearing this brace. I don't play golf, so I can't say for sure. The rigidity of the brace holds thumb straight. I can still flex the thumb joint closest to thumbnail. **Q: Made in China?** A: I honestly did not know it was made in China. I received this item and use it almost 24/7. My thumb is so sore from arthrist and wearing it helps with the pain. It is well made and comfortable. AWESOME !! ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ loved this until it started to irritate my skin (Found a fix) *by M***S on February 24, 2022* ***update*** I ended up adding a small strip of moleskin to the underside of the thumb strap that was irritateing my skin. this has helped and I am able to wear it with no issues. I even ordered a second one for my other hand for sleeping as it was starting to develop pain due to overuse on account of my dominant hand being out of commission. I've been using these braces for about 2 months and the pain has significantly reduced in both my hands. I would recommend this brace just keep an eye on the thumb strap and maybe add some moleskin (dr. Scholes worked for me) to them to protect your skin from getting pinched! I have DeQuervain's in my right hand and this brace was perfect, it supports my thumb and relieves the aching pain in my whole thumb and wrist joint. My only complaint is that after about 2 weeks the strap that goes over the space between thumb and forefinger has started to cause an irritation. it feels like my skin is getting pinch under it. I really love this brace and wish it hadn't suddenly started irritating me there!
