**Q: Can it be used while plugged into charger?**
A: Yes the radio can be used while charging.  You will need to turn off, plug in the charger, turn back on.... When you hear "Please charge the battery" and plug in the charger it will keep repeating , but if you turn it off first and back on after connecting charger, it works fine.

**Q: Any lanyard hole?**
A: Yes there is a lanyard hole top right corner very small openings but it is there

**Q: How do you take the back off- it came assembled without the battery installed?**
A: there is small lockers on the right of back cover

**Q: Is this radio programmable like the RT-10?**
A: yes, it is programmable

I got these so my wife and I can communicate during bike rides. When one person is a head of the other, the only way to talk is to scream back and forth. This does the job just fine at a great price. We now use it almost daily around the house if one person is going to keep an eye on our toddler while the other is doing yard work or something. We were even able to keep contact from about 3 blocks away through houses in the neighborhood! I love the compact form and included belt clips too. The loud verbal alerts and beeps can be annoying but easy to forget when you realize the quality you're getting for the price. If you want features, you'll have to pay for a higher grade walkie, but this does everything we need it to.

The beeps are extremely loud when you turn it on or off, and you have to turn the volume down every time you turn it on.Other than that they work great and the kids love them.
