Could be easier to setup. *by S***N on January 19, 2021* This is a good switch, but unless you’re a network admin, you’re going to spend a good deal of time web searching to figure out how to set it up. The instructions Are ok for most basic tasks, but they don’t explain many of the networking concepts and initialisms that you’ll need to understand to get how to configure it.I’m a technical person and understand a little about network protocols, and it took me 2 attempts (had to factory reset at one point) and about 2 hours to configure the switch to split the top and bottom ports between 2 networks. And the interface is a bit clunky that way. In order to do that, I had to explicitly set each port to each other port on the web interface (I.e click a checkbox for all the odd numbered ports on port 1 and click save. Repeat 28 times.) ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Does the job but v1 has a loud fan *by J***R on October 23, 2024* I have owned and used a TRENDnet TEG-30284 switch since Dec. 2018.I am running the latest firmware as of 2024-10-22 (the latest firmware was published in 2021).Note that the v1 model has been discontinued; the latest is now v2.5R.Two issues I have noticed:- this unit is loud. I'm guessing 45-55 dB "iac acoustics" "Comparative Examples of Noise Levels".I've powered off all other electronics in the large front room where this switch resides. The noise is almost enough to give me a headache (and I don't get headaches). My wife who has ear issues cannot stand to sit close to this switch. I'm fairly certain this switch is louder than the Dell R640 server (with SSDs, no spinning disks) that was sitting next to it.- I've observed that the web interface will just cease working - the web page will not load or otherwise respond. When it does, I power off the switch for 45 seconds and power it back on; the web page will now load. It's not just the web daemon either as the TRENDnet application would detect the switch but could not perform a firmware update (stating it could not access/find the device) until after the switch had been rebooted.Other than that, I've been able to use the switch for what I need it for. That said, the only feature I am using is LAGging two ports together. I created two of these on the switch, one Active for use with the Dell server and one Passive for use with a QNAP NAS. The management interface is excellent for VLANs and the GigE uplink is great addition for fiber connections. The only negative I have found, that is also a positive is that the three fans are quite noisy for a small office where it is near people. The positive is that the airflow is very good keeping the power supply well ventilated thus I don't expect to see a power supply failure for many, many years. I have purchased more than 100 of this model from Amazon at lower prices via Prime Membership that I can buy from my traditional distributors.
