It has served me well doing that and I can always take it off the pole and manually use it on the ground. These are the sharpest and easiest to use saws around, just be careful and don't nick yourself with it cuz it can cut the skin quite easily. Also bought the MOSSEY oak saw which comes with different blades for plastic and metal, but this saw kills it when it comes to straight wood cutting. I have been taking this and a small hatchet in my backpack while Mnt. Biking to clear trails. With this saw doing the initial cut, then hatchet down, then saw clearing 1-4 inch trees no hatchet in like a minute and larger trees 5 - 24 inch in 5 - 10 minutes. Yes its a workout! But its the best folding saw i have ever owned.
