How much quieter are they than normal sticks? That the sticks are about quieter approx. 4-9 dB quieter (i.e. up to 80% quieter), they owe not only to their low weight thanks to their polycarbonate shaft, but above all the dual twist reflex tips, which absorb most of the impact, deform, and so, unlike rods and comparable solutions, gives the stick its rebound - only much quieter. The SSX model has a firm thick shaft the size of a 5A stick and a firm tip. The SSE e-drum model has a bit thicker but softer grip, is slightly lighter overall and has a softer tip, both to reduce and absorb shockwaves from rubber pads. Here at Amazon USA these are the only versions available. **Q: What if you add slient drum heads and cymbals well useing the the sticks and slient bass drum beater?** A: I am very happy with these sticks. If you get silent heads and a silent bass, drum beater you’ll be in great shape. For near silent practice. To further reduce the volume of my bass drum, I use some type of screw on pad. I play jazz and some funkier groovier styles. So can only comment on how they work in this context.And for this they are utterly superb.I immediately bought another pair just out of fear they may get discontinued.I can finally practise and *know* I'm not bothering anyone instead of *hoping* I'm not and trying to keep it out of my thoughts.I combine these with low volume cymbals (the type with the holes in them) and e-drums (because I could never get on with the e-drum cymbals) and play the e-drums through a small amp turned down very quiet. With these sticks just added this set up allows me to play with unrestrained movement and feel and it produces an overall volume I can barely believe as it's so quiet.Finally technology alone has given me the drum set up I need. I had been thinking of saving up for a soundproof studio in the garden. No need now.I adapted to the slightly different weight and feel almost immediately.Strongly recommend if you do a lot of more intricate, lighter, groovier, funkier, more swinging practise. I have a drum kit with mesh heads and quiet cymbals but it was still too loud, regularly going over 85db. With these sticks the sound level is kept noticably lower.The new tip design works well. I don't have the old design to compare it to.I'm aware that I have to play more gentle with these sticks. They are made of plastic. They could break. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ A great alternative to 'hot rods' *by on Reviewed in the United Kingdom 6 July 2025* I bought these as I need to be relatively quiet in our rehearsal space, and I'm not keen on the dowel rod style sticks intended for that purpose. I was tempted by these as they looked to be a similar size to hold onto as regular drumsticks. They are of course lighter than regular sticks, but they do have a decent bit of weight in them so don't feel flimsy. And they do what they're supposed to do - good sound, less volume!My only dislikes are aesthetic. I don't like that the place where the tip is glued into the tube is exposed, as it just looks a bit messy. And the sticks themselves look pretty wrecked pretty fast, as the plastic shows up all the dings significantly.
