After it set (45 mins), I baked it for 2 hours at 200F to dry it before painting.Both grandparents and two grandkids (4 and 10) enjoyed this project. We look forward to more eruptions.The mold is reusable if you purchase more plaster (410g or 14.6oz plus 1 cup water.Not nearly enough black paint, the vial seemed half full. The paints are just tempera.You can’t buy extra eruption packs, tho. The kit's eruption powder is a mixture of sodium bicarbonate (baking soda) and citric acid, you add water.But - The instructions with the kit tell how you can easily replicate the eruption with baking soda and white vinegar or lemon juice. Add a few drops of red food coloring and some dish soap for a more realistic "lava" effect and better foam.Or try a single Mentos candy with some added soda pop. That can get very messy and sticky, unless you use diet soda.
