The product is fairly easy to put together, it's lightweight and doesn't require any tools. Everything is held together by tucking some flaps of cardboard into slots, and so far it's held up to my cat well. She's quite petite (vet said her healthy weight is about 8lbs) so larger cats might crush this, but so far mine can stand on it and routinely does as she tries to dig her food out. The big benefit for my cat so far is that she has a bad habit of eating way too fast if I'm not careful around feeding her. Usually I give her what I nicknamed an "appetizer", where she gets a small portion of food, I wait 10 mins, and then give her the rest and it helps reduce regurgitation. However, since I've gotten this, she prefers to get her kibble out of the puzzle instead of the bowl, and I haven't found any signs of her throwing up recently. I think the only wish I had was that it weighed a little bit more because when my cat really gets into hunting for kibble, she will push the box all over the floor. But it's a minor issue and doesn't seem to affect her interest at all. There are cardboard baffles inside the toy that also act as supports for the top. Our 13# kitty is pretty aggressive with this toy and we've had it for months with no problem. I highly recommend it! **Q: is this cardboard?** A: Yes it's cardboard, but very sturdy. I've had one for nearly a year now and bring it out twice to three times a week* for three cats playtime. It's got some stains from the oilier treats, but that doesn't matter structurally. So I'd say as long as you have plenty of other stuff for them to chew on (we've even gone as far as making ours a roll of cardboard sticks) and put this puzzle box away when you see them chewing on it, it should be safe. Just so you know the puzzle box it's super thick cardboard - it's thin and rigid, it's not super flimsy.
