It specifically states on the bottom of the container to hand wash. **Q: Can food contents be heated in the microwave in the cup part of the thermos?** A: I wouldn't. I don't think it's sturdy enough for that **Q: Do i have to put hot water before each use? Besides soup what other foods type can i use for my son school lunch to keep atleast warm?** A: Any food you warm up will keep warm or hot. You don’t need to put the hot water in it to warm up the thermos. I skip this step and the food keeps warm as long as it is hot when placed in the jar. **Q: Does water getting trapped in the valve that creates a stench ?** A: Yes, I'm facing this issue. It has happened twice now. A well cleaned and dried item when opened for use, has a little liquid seeping and stinking.
