## Description

Children should not just read about history, they should live it. In The Story of Civilization , the ancient stories that have shaped humanity come alive like never before. Author Phillip Campbell uses his historical expertise and story-telling ability together in tandem to present the content in a fresh and thrilling way. The Story of Civilization reflects a new emphasis in presenting the history of the world as a thrilling and compelling narrative. Within each chapter, children will encounter short stories that place them directly in the shoes of historical figures, both famous and ordinary, as they live through legendary battles and invasions, philosophical debates, the construction of architectural wonders, the discovery of new inventions and sciences, and the exploration of the world. Volume I, The Ancient World , begins the journey, covering the time periods from the dawn of history and the early nomads, to the conversion of Emperor Constantine. Children will learn what life was like in the ancient civilizations of Egypt, Mesopotamia, Persia, Greece, Rome, and more, as well as learn the Old Testament stories of the Israelites and the coming of Christ. The strength of the content lies not only in the storybook delivery of it, but also in the way it presents history through the faithful prism of the Church. Have you always wanted your children to learn about world history from a Catholic perspective? Here, you’ll have the trusted resource you’ve always wanted. Did You Know… · That young people in the Minoan culture participated in bull leaping games? · That King Xerxes of Persia once ordered his soldiers to whip the waves when the ocean became rocky beneath their boats? · That the Greek inventor, Archimedes, built a giant heat ray to protect his hometown, catching enemy ships on fire through the use of sunbeams? · That the powerful Carthaginian general, Hannibal, used elephants to march his army over the Alps on his way to attack Rome? · That Julius Caesar of Rome fell in love with the famous Cleopatra of Egypt? Embark on the journey now to learn of all these wonders and more!

Review: Best Christian Homeschooling History Book Ever! - My son absolutely loved listening to the audiobook while reading along for his history class as part of our Catholic homeschool curriculum. He has a very difficult time staying focused when reading, so I was amazed by how much this book helped him stay engaged and actually enjoy learning history. This book is truly wonderful. It presents centuries-old history in a way that is simple, interesting, and easy for children to understand without making it feel boring or overwhelming. I honestly enjoyed it just as much as he did! We just finished the book, and my 10-year-old is already asking me to buy the next volume right now. Haha! If that doesn't say how engaging this series is, I don't know what does. 😂 I will absolutely be purchasing the next volume in the series. Seeing my son genuinely excited to continue reading and learning about history makes this book completely worth it. I highly recommend it, especially for homeschool families or children who normally struggle to stay focused while reading.
Review: Great for homeschooling kids of all ages! - I use it to homeschool my 7, 8, and 10 year-olds. It's interesting enough to hold their attention, but full of enough information that I learn something new every time we read from it. I'm not sure about the rest of the series, but I see other religious beliefs treated with respect in this first volume (and I expect that it continues to be true). I like that it includes history that my kids also learn about from the Bible, which helps to create a fuller picture for them. My only complaint is that it doesn't contain very much history outside of eastern Europe and western Asia. There is some, but not much. At least half of the book is dedicated to Greek and Roman history. I wouldn't hesitate to use it for high school level with a little supplementation. I have also read Story of the World (the whole series) and taught using History Quest (volume 1 and 2). Story of the World was a little too simple, and I struggled to find it interesting. History Quest was a bit too wordy, and my ADHD kiddo had trouble staying focused, even when I broke it down into reading for just a few minutes each time. Story of Civilization is a nice middle ground. It has the same type of immersive story telling that you find in History Quest's "history hops" but without dedicating half the book to it. I'm very pleased with this book!

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Awesome Book

Awesome curriculum for homeschoolers. If you have a student with high functioning autism/Adhd who struggles with history I highly recommend this book. We switched from Seton History to this for the time being and he loves it!
