A: If you have composite cables for your VCR output, this will allow you to connect it to an HDMI input. So, if your cable box has an HDMI input that allows you to record, then yes.

**Q: just purchased and hooked up today - video comes through from dvd player, but not audio - its connected properly - what is likely problem/solution?**
A: This could possibly be caused by the settings in your DVD Player. It is possible your DVD Play could have the audio set to output through 5.1 Optical Dolby Digital and not Stereo through the A/V output. Maybe try to change the settings and see if it resolves the issue. I hope this works.
