You simply connect the two cables to your battery terminals, and you'll get both a digital readout, as well as a simple led light to give you the battery or alternator status. This was so handy to have as I recently had to replace both my alternator and battery on my Dodge Durango. The alternator readout gave me piece of mind that the alternator was installed and working correctly. This unit will also warn you if you have the cables hooked up incorrectly. My only reason for not giving 5 stars is it's a bit cheaply made. It's hard plastic, and the rubber sleaves on the clips are very thin and tend to slide off easily.
