It is not a fake knife. It is hand forged out of spring steel. It is the perfect size for a letter opener but it can be used for any work requiring a small knife. Mine came very sharp and ready to use. It will make an excellent patch knife or carried on a necklace or attached to the strap of a hunter's bag. **Q: Can it be use for hand carving?** A: This is a good looing knife but is best suited as a letter opener. it would be very difficult to get a good grip on the handle for the pressure required to carve. **Q: Can i have this engraved** A: In looking at the knife i would say no to the engraving. it is a hand forged blade, very rustic, primitive looking. you may ask the seller about the engraving. what i can tell you is that this knife/letter opener is way cool. you will not be disappointed. the sheathe that comes with it is high quality as well. i have answered several peoples questions and hope they have purchased and are as pleased with this knife/letter opener as i am. **Q: I'm confused. it states the overall length is 5.945 and the blade is 5.709. that would be a very small blade! so what are the dimensions?** A: We're going to be mumbled :-)overall length = 5.906 inches ,blade length= 2.559, blade width = 0,787 inches ## Frequently Bought Together - Toferner Letter Opener Knife, Hand Forged Mail Envelope Slitter with Genuine Leather Case, Vintage Cutter with Hardened Blade, Hand Made Craft for Vintage Collection, Gift Idea for Men - Toferner Hand Forged Knife Snail with Sheath, Vintage Knife for Antique Collection, Genuine Leather Case, Hardened Blade, Hand Made Craft, Gift Idea for Men (Black) --- ## Why Shop on Desertcart? - 🛒 **Trusted by 1.3+ Million Shoppers** — Serving international shoppers since 2016 - 🌍 **Shop Globally** — Access 737+ million products across 21 categories - 💰 **No Hidden Fees** — All customs, duties, and taxes included in the price - 🔄 **15-Day Free Returns** — Hassle-free returns (30 days for PRO members) - 🔒 **Secure Payments** — Trusted payment options with buyer protection - ⭐ **TrustPilot Rated 4.5/5** — Based on 8,000+ happy customer reviews **Shop now:** [https://www.desertcart.co.za/products/279352285-toferner-original-gift-letter-knife-hand-forged-spring-steel-celtic](https://www.desertcart.co.za/products/279352285-toferner-original-gift-letter-knife-hand-forged-spring-steel-celtic) --- *Product available on Desertcart South Africa* *Store origin: ZA* *Last updated: 2026-10-12*
