They are quite flimsy when taken off the backing. I found just taking a small amount of the backing off along one edge, lining the tile up really carefully and then peeling off the rest of the backing gradually and sticking it down worked best. You can sort of peel them off if you don’t quite line it up right but they lose their stick a bit and can take paint off. It took me a good few hours but I just did a few tiles at a time to avoid getting too infuriated, so in the end I split the job over about 3-4 days.
