A: I bought this to go from a propane tank used on travel trailers ( or full size gas grill )  to a 100 lb propane tank !

**Q: What is the thread size on the pol end.  seem to be larger than 1/2.  5/8 maybe?**
A: POL stands for Prest-O-Lite It's a Proprietary non-standard left hand thread developed by them years ago.
I'd guess about 3/4 to 1 inch in diameter.

**Q: I need to connect a new tank to an old accessory. Any suggestions?**
A: Your do not need this fitting to use the older style fitting.   The new tanks have inside threads to accommodate the older fittings
