## Overview

Midwest Hearth Clear Aquarium Silicone Sealant is a premium RTV silicone designed specifically for aquarium construction and repair. It bonds strongly to glass without primers, remains waterproof and fish-safe after curing, and tolerates extreme temperatures from -70°F to 450°F. Its non-slump formula allows easy vertical application, curing fully in 7-10 days to create a durable, long-lasting seal suitable for both fresh and saltwater environments.

## Description

APPLICATION1. Glass must be properly prepared as described.2. Apply the aquarium sealant to edge surface of the glass to be joined to the non-edge surface. After application of the sealant, the assembled glass components should be tightly placed in a fixture or jig to allow sealant to flow evenly between joined surfaces and to give support during the internal sealing of the aquarium.3. Selected bead size appropriate for the size of aquarium being constructed. Apply the sealant into the center of the joint formed by the sections of glass. Tool the sealant immediately after application. Any excess sealant should be removed before the sealant is cured by suing a clean cloth and a suitable solvent such as MEK (methyl ethyl Ketone), TCE (trichlorethylene) or alcohol.Cured sealant can be trimmed with sharp blade. Allow sealant to cure at least 7 to 10 days before adding water and fish. This will ensure full cure and will allow the curing agent to totally dissipate.REPAIR APPLICATIONThe ASI Aquarium Silicone Sealant can be used to repair old or damaged aquariums.1. Remove all of the damaged sealant, clean area to be repaired with a clean cloth and a suitable solvent. Apply sealant as described above and tool.2. Check repaired aquarium for leaks before adding fish to tank. Fill aquarium with water and let sit for several days and check for any signs or leakage.

## Questions & Answers

**Q: Will it fix a leaky plexiglass tank?**
A: 100% silicone is for use on glass and not recommended for long term adhesion on acrylics, plexiglass, plastics since they contain petroleum products which will cause the silicone to peel off in time.  (MAY be fine for short-term use.)  There are special adhesives/sealants for use with acrylics and plastics and they will be labeled as such.  Plexiglass, specifically, needs an adhesive method that actually "melts" the plexiglass, which then creates the bond.  100% silicone adhesives/sealants will not do that.

**Q: Could this be used safely as a gasket around my filter screen at the bottom of dishwasher used to block food particles around edge of screen filter?**
A: I’m no expert but as it is silicone and it is safe for aquariums once cured, it should be safe for a dishwasher.

**Q: Will salt water eat sealant**
A: In general silicon sealants will handle salt water.  I used this particular sealant for a fresh water tank, but I have used silicon sealants on my salt water sail boat without an issue.  The main problem with all sealants is you need a clean, oil free, and dry surface for the sealant can properly attach to the surface.  You need a humid, but not wet environment for the sealant to cure.  I suggest placing a well dampened cloth in the bottom of the tank.  You don't want water on the sealant, but you need moisture in the air.

**Q: After applying the silicone, approximately how many minutes do you have before taking the tape off?**
A: if you mean using masking tape to keep the glue off an area, i would pull it off when it is still wet,
and probably wouldnt wait more than 15 minutes to do so. Remember you can spritz the silicone with water to help it cure faster and better.
