Review: Great value for money - Was not happy with Alexa routines, didn't want to devote the time for Home Assistant and at a fraction of the cost of Homey plumped for Aeotec Smart things hub. Incredibly easy to set up, instructions were one of those rare set where the process matched the theory. Initially kept losing connection, but fixed that by taking it off WiFi mode and attaching it directly to router via ethernet. App layout is good and functions as I hoped. More basic routines than say Homey, but for the price and feature set it is fantastic. Edge Drivers are needed for some devices eg Aqara to unlock their full feature set, but with a bit of AI back and forth easy to work out and install. Like the fact that lots of routines are all local.
Review: Pleasantly surprised! - I already have a smart home set up, and use a Samsung SmartThings hub to control Zigbee & Z-Wave devices. I'm also a stubborn so and so, and I insist on having everything working via HomeKit and Siri, so I run HomeBridge too (Actually using Hoobs now as I prefer the interface). I have 99% of my kit working just how I want. The only issue I have with my current set up is that the front door DanaLock V3 keeps disconnecting from the Z-Wave network on my SmartThings V2 hub and stops responding. I've tried the DanLock Bridge, it's not reliable from outside the house and has no WiFi integration to HomeKit - a big flaw. All my research said that SmartThings can only handle one hub at a location, but as I said, stubborn so and so, so I decided to give the Aeotec hub a try. I figured at least the newer hardware may have a better Z-Wave transceiver. The Aeotec connected to my SmartThings app very easily. Used the QR code on the device and the app adopted the hub and allowed me to configure for WiFi. To check I logged into my online SmartThings account and both hubs were showing connected at my Home location. So I unpaired the DanaLock from the SmartThings hub (ignore any online instructions, just hit remove in the app and press the reset button on the lock - no need to go into Z-Wave utilities). Then re-added the lock, this time picking the Aeotec hub (which I've located right by the side of the lock). The device showed up fine, strait away - SmartThings definitely can handle 2 hubs at the one location. Even better, I went into the Automations section of the app and the Homebridge settings, added the new entry for the lock to the devices list, and there is was, back available in HomeKit. Overall it took about 15 minutes to migrate the lock to the new hub and have everything working how I wanted. It remains to be seen if the lock stays connected to this hub, but if it doesn't I'm pretty sure that's more of an issue with the lock (rebooting it reconnects it to Z-Wave, but that needs me to open it and pop the batteries).

## Questions & Answers

**Q: Will this work in Jamaica?**
A: Technically it works in Jamaica. But please consider this Hub type operates on EU Z-Wave frequency (868,42 MHz)

**Q: Does this work with tuya.**
A: BEWARE. It does work with Tuya and Smart Life BUT not all tuya/Smartlife devices can be controlled from SmartThings and many will not show up. I have several outlets/bulbs which all connect to Tuya but some do not show up in SmartThings. It’s all a bit of a lottery.

**Q: Will this hub work with apple home kit so i want to be able to see my cameras on apple tv on screen**
A: In theory, this should be possible when Matter is released in a larger scale. However, you may still need an Apple HomeKit Hub - such as an HomePod or Apple TV. But I would hold off for now atlest till 2023.

Hope that helped.

**Q: Is this hub compatible with Matter smart home standard?**
A: Hi,I am no expert and I am just as confused with these new certifications.

But your saying yes on this practical device/seller?
So can you tell me where in the job product listing clarify this?

1: devices approved now have the matter logo. (Strange why there's no box showing in pictures of product?

2 approved device also have stamp mark BUILT ON THREAD border router.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ It does update and it is a thread border router
*by R***S on 29 December 2025*

I bought this to replace my V2 hub which is getting on a bit now. I've seen a few reviews saying the hubs were old stock and as a result won't update and don't support Thread. Well, I'm pleased to report that 2 out of 3 are incorrect. The hub that I received was indeed made in 2022 which is a bit disappointing but I guess they don't sell many. Still I thought I'd give it a try. I plugged it in, connected it to the the SmartThings app and the first thing it did was an update. Once that was complete I added a Thread plug (this one to be exact; https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B0CHRDZCGP). Scanned the QR code on the plug, plugged it in and 10 seconds later it was there, on the new hub ready to rock and roll. Lets hope the SmartThings Replace Hub feature works just as well...
