Review: REVIEW OF ADVANTAGE II LARGE CAT FLEA CONTROL - PROS: works well, appropriate for large cats, easy application, ability to buy in bulk CONS: expensive, sometimes applicator breaks, stinky smell! I first purchased this product in August 2015, Again in Janurary 2016, and I just purchased this again (July 2016). I purchased this product to help control fleas on my two cats, one of which is an indoor/outdoor cat. The neighborhood I live in has terrible fleas, so using flea medication is essential. The product arrived quickly, and came with thorough instructions, which I skimmed. The medication comes in a tiny tube incased in a foil packet. I opened the packet, and took out the tube. You break the seal on the tube by inverting the cap and puncturing the seal. I did this and accidentally twisted, causing the point on the top of the lid to become lodged in the opening of the tube. This was stressful because each treatment is so expensive. I realized, however, that I could fish out the point with some tweezers and still use the product! I then pinned my cat down and applied the product to the back of their neck. While I did see a decrease in fleas, I still saw several. I increased application to once every two weeks, and added baths and flea combing to the regime. Eventually, I was able to apply only once a month. During the summer the flea population seems to increase, which also coincided with my adoption of a second cat. I noticed the cat came in with fleas and I applied this medication, but it didn't seem to do much. I then woke up one morning with about 30 flea bites covering my lower legs and feet! I was horrified, and I knew it was time to get serious! After a bit of research I realized apart of why the medication may have been ineffective previously was that I wasn't applying it correctly (ha! Thats what i get for skimming!) Rereading instructions, I realized that I need to part my cats fur and try to make skin contact with the medication. I also learned that if my cats lick it it will taste bitter, discouraging licking behaviors of the medication. I'm going to include a few steps I took to control fleas in my house, unrelated to this product, but I think it might be useful! Scroll down to my conclusion if uninterested :) Anyways, so my cats hate baths (they were both rescued and are older so its hard to introduce new behaviors, I mean, I'm no jackson galaxy) For this reason flea baths always stressed me out and I was worried about my cats catching a cold or licking the flea shampoo and getting sick.Instead of bathing my cats, I gave them a pill that will kill all the fleas on them within 6 hours( https://www.desertcart.com/Novartis-Capstar-Flea-Tablets-Count/dp/B005Z6UL1M/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1469319334&sr=8-2&keywords=flea+killer+pill). Using this pill in conjunction with this treatment, was a life saver! The next thing I did was give my pets a dry, diatomaceous earth bath. If you choose to do this with your cats, make sure you use food grade DE. DE is a great natural alternative for flea control, but the dust can be damaging to yourself and your cats! To prevent this, I wore a bandana around my mouth, and I stuck a comfy cone on my cat ( https://www.desertcart.com/Comfy-Cone-E-Collar-Large-Black/dp/B000XY7CKE/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1469319818&sr=8-1&keywords=comfy+cone). My cats didn't like it, but it was safer and easier than flea baths! I also put some apple cider vinegar diluted with water in a spray bottle, and I sprayed down my cats. They hated this, but I think it maybe helped the fleas? It also reduced dust from the DE. CONCLUSION: I think that all cat owners should use this product on their cats, even if their cats are indoor cats. an inch of prevention is worth a pound of solution, and this is especially true for fleas. Make sure to treat your cats regularly and make sure you apply it correctly! included some photos of my happy flea free cats :)
Review: Loyal Customer - I've been using this on my cat for over 10 years. It works perfectly! We've never had any issues with fleas while using it. It's affordable and my cat has never had any side effects or issues with it.

## Questions & Answers

**Q: Why is the item called "Bayer K9 Advantix II Flea and Tick Control Treatment for Cats"? The Bayer K9 is, of course, for dogs.**
A: Please be sure to use ONLY Feline Advantage on cats and use ONLY the dog Advantage on dogs! The use of canine Advantage on cats WILL kill them giving them severe neurological damage! I wish that Advantage would make the packaging TOTALLY different for cats and dogs, it would help. Especially with people who may not see the difference at first glance. My elderly mom accidentally applied the large dog Advantage to her cat and it had to be put down. Mom has felt horrible about it. Awful experience. Also about dosing, I have a 19 year old cat and I have used feline Advantage on him every summer for about 3 months for well over 17 years. It works wonderfully for him. I have always used the large cat product but since he has lost some weight this year I called Bayer and asked if I should use a smaller dose. The person at Bayer explained that Advantage works on body AREA as well as weight. So even though my cat has lost some weight (he's 9 pounds) his body AREA is still the same (loose skin) and so I have been applying the large cat dose and it has worked well for him this summer with no ill effects. I cannot speak to the authenticity of this Amazon product as I purchase my Advantage from the local pet store.

**Q: When using this medicine, do I also need to flea bomb or spray the apartment ? Or will the medicine kill all fleas in the apartment, as well?**
A: You'll find a wide range of advice on here. I can only tell you what has worked for me on several occasions. This topical treatment will kill only the fleas that get on your cat. There are several options for your home. They range from safe/natural formulas to strong pesticides. The all safe/natural offerings work for a short time and only kill the fleas that come in contact with the spray. I keep a bottle outside to spray on my feet and ankles to kill the fleas from outside that have hopped on me while in the yard. Great for this and for bedding. Next, as for bombs - there is only one that I have found that works. Most bombs are cans of spray that has a button that locks down to empty the can of spray. They may work but only cover a very small area effectively. Raid makes a bomb that you drop into a supplied plastic cup with about an inch of water in it. When the bomb canister hits the water, it will begin to smoke. The smokenfills the entire area. Three cannisters come in the box and can cover a small house effectively, every nook and cranny. It is called Raid Fumigator. I have NEVER had to use it twice. This type of treatment requires you to remove ALL pets for about 6 hours, but it does work. Raid also makes a carpet spray that works well. But again, pets must not be around it until the fumes die down - about 30-40 minutes. Two other options are Boric Acid or diotemaceus earth (food grade!). These two products are applied similarly. You sprinkle them on carpet or furniture and take broom or brush to rub them in. This will take a few days to a week or so to get control of a home invasion. They work by cutting the exo-skeleton of fleas, roaches, etc and cause them to dehydrate. The Boric Acid can cause irritation to some pets or people, where the diotemac ous earth is 100% safe other than breathing the fine dust that occurs only when you are applying it. Both work great! The problem with a lot of people complaining that a product doesn't work is that they don't realize that the flea you see is only 5% of what is in your house. The other 95% are eggs (laid about 50 at a time) and the larvae. There is a cycle that last up to several weeks. When these doubters kill the 5% adult fleas and then find more fleas a few days later, they think it doesn't work. But in reality, they are see new hatchlings. That's where the Boric Acid and Diotemaceus earth come in handy if you can't use the Fumigator. An infested home can seem unsurmountable but try the products that you feel safe with, give it time and vacuum everyday you can and you will win!

**Q: Is this 6 month supply a 6 pack of tubes?**
A: Hi Doreen... Actually, I bought the 4 pack because I have four cats. I had earlier in the month bought a 4 pack someplace else, so I had two treatments for each cat. I did the treatments three weeks apart (the instructions say it is OK to do if you wait seven days). I bought the 9+ lb. package as three of the cats are well over that weight. One cat is a bit smaller and I didn't use quite all of the tube on her. None of the cats had any bad reactions, and it worked well for three of them. The other cat (partial Maine Coon) had some results, but not so good.

**Q: Does this kill ticks? If not, what do people recommend for ticks?**
A: To get rid of fleas and ticks use Frontline Plus. I started to use it on mine a year ago it killed the ticks and fleas. I reapply it every other month and I haven’t seen one since.

Not impressed with the flea control from this med. Takes days to even begin to see any change and I'm combing out fleas in that time. Better than others but other than getting an RX from the vets, this will suffice.
