I started with slamming it against my mattress as hard as I could then went outside and beat it against a tree and nothing bad happened. It took some scuff marks but nothing bent or rattled after. If I went as hard as I could and kept going I'm sure it would break, but it took three good whacks so I'm sure it'd handle some light sparring all day. It's made really well. I was worried the handle would just be a cylinder but it's a nice oval shape, the plastic handle fills the hand nicely. The sections of the blade are almost as thick as a butterknife, so the whole thing has some weight to it and it certainly doesn't feel flimsy. It feels premium, as much as a collapsible sword can. The tassle feels cheap, but it's just decoration you don't even have to attach. Unfortunately because of the nature of the pieces sliding against each other there are some small scuff marks where the shiny metal looks worn down, and no doubt there will only be more of those with more use but what's a sword without some battle damage right? Be careful when extending the blade. The instructions recommend just holding the handle and swinging it out. That's what I tried and it was nearly impossible to close it again. Those sections lock together VERY well. I had to stab it into the floor with all my weight to collapse it. You're better off letting it fall open then tugging on it to secure it open. NOT blade steel, very rounded everywhere, hollow of course, chrome plated, the blade is made to collapse at slight pressure on the end. and all other users i've met of this type DO NOT want to be around sharp blades. i got it because a tai chi class complained when i brought a real tai chi sword with an edge. just don't bother trying. as a non-sharp practice 'sword' it is not bad, I added some weight inside the pommel and its balance is better than most such practice stuff. **Q: Will the sword break? Like would it stand sparing, for instance?** A: While the sword is well made, it is hollow and for individual practice purposes. I wouldn't recommend it for sparring as the weak points are the sword's joints. If you were to hit the sword hard enough against another sword, it could break at the joint, fly apart, and injure someone. **Q: Just got it. cannot close it -- middle section is firmly stuck in the extended position. should i return it? how do you contact physcool?** A: I had the same problem after about a month.
