A: No! This knife is made of carbon steel and will rust. There are other versions of this same knife such as this one (http://www.amazon.com/Mora-Companion-Stainless-Steel-Fixed/dp/B004ZAIXSC/ref=pd_sim_sg_8 ) in stainless that would be much better suited for use around salt water.

**Q: Is this knife full tang?**

**Q: how sharp does the knife come??? Does the sheath keep the knife held in place??? Will the back of this blade work with my fire steel??**
A: The knives come sharp and hold an edge. The sheath holds the knife snug and the knife snaps in. I use mine as a neck knife. I filed a flat edge on the back of the blade next to the handle for that purpose and it works well. I love these knives and own several. I have given a lot away and everyone has loved them.
