How does the humidifier work? Do I have to add water to the gel?** A: Instructions should be emailed to you after the humidor is delivered. First, please make sure to remove the white silica gel pack as it's for packing purposes and not intended to stay inside the humidor. Also, please remove any plastic white rings around the hygrometer. In order to season your humidor, you'll typically remove the lids and fill the included case Elegance included humidity gel up to the water line. Leave the humidor closed for up to 21 days. You can check it every few days until you see the humidity get to 84% or so. You'll also want to soak the humidifying puck for 3 minutes and place it back into the humidor. Once the humidity has reached around 84% you can place your cigars in there. Typically a humidor needs to be 50% full to help maintain humidity (65% - 75%). You'll need to re-place the puck into water when the humidity in the box drops and then place it back in there. The frequency of this depends on where you live. If you live in a dry climate you might have to do this weekly. A wetter climate and perhaps monthly will work. If you still can't get the humidity where you want it, it's likely the included hygrometer needs to be calibrated. Please see the manufacturers website for calibration instructions. **Q: Is it made in the usa** A: It's designed in USA, made in China **Q: How do you season this box?** A: First, let's get the basics out of the way. - Remove the plastic wring around the hygrometer (the gauge that measures humidity). - Remove the silica gel pack (white pack with beads in it), it will prevent any humidity from being inside the box, so this is very important. You might have already thrown this away, so don't fret if you can't find it. Now, there are few different ways to season a humidor, so I'm going to break this up by methods... BOWL OF WATER METHOD Simply take a small bowl and fill it with water. Place directly inside the humidor and close the lid. Monitor the humidity about every two or three days until the gauge reads 84% or so (it is not uncommon for this to take two weeks or more), at which point you can put your cigars inside and fill up the humidifying puck. 84% BOVEDA PACK METHOD Buy an 84% boveda pack and place inside the humidor until the humidity gauge reads 84% or so (it is not uncommon for this to take two weeks or more), at which point you can put your cigars inside and fill up the humidifying puck. CASE ELEGANCE HUMIDIFYING GEL Some of our humidors come with the case Elegance humidifying gel. In this case, simply fill the gel bottle with water to the fill line (leave the lid off of the bottle) and watch until the humidifying gauge reads 84%. It is not uncommon for it to take two weeks or more for the gauge to read 84%. If the hygrometer is not reading 84%, it's likely you need to calibrate it... CALIBRATE YOUR ANALOG HYGROMETER Place a teaspoon of salt in a bottle cap or small cup and dampen it with a few drops of water (without dissolving it). Carefully place the wet salt and the hygrometer inside a see-through container and close tightly. You can use a zip lock bag provided it seals well and you leave some air inside as well. Let it sit for at least 6 hours and note the reading on the hygrometer without opening the container. The hygrometer should should read 75%. The difference is how much your hygrometer is off. For example, if your hygrometer reads 70% during the salt method test this means that to obtain the real humidity level you should add 5 points. If you have an analog hygrometer, you can correct the reading. You will need to adjust the needle to the 75% mark by turning the screw on the back using a small screwdriver. You'll need to first carefully peel off the sticky magnet on the back of the hygrometer. Then, you'll need to completely disassemble the hygrometer by removing the white back part of the hygrometer (pry it off with a small flathead screwdriver). It will almost appear broken, but it is not. Next, you'll need to manually grab the entire rear portion of the needle assembly and rotate until the front portion reads 75%. Now, re-assemble the hygrometer. Your hygrometer is now ready to be placed inside your humidor. **Q: Can I use a hole saw and mount the hygrometer from the to so I can view without opening?** A: As long as it has a good seal it would work.
