Review: Questa è la serie L veramente Top di gamma ! - Diciamolo subito, il costo elevato è ampiamente giustificato dalla qualità a 360° di questo splendido zoom ! Qualità costruttiva al top, materiali veramente solidi in un formato alla fine relativamente compatto per essere un 100-400. Le caratteristiche tecniche le si trovano facilmente nelle schede informative ma ci tengo a evidenziare che questo zoom ha una distanza minima di messa a fuoco di solo 0,98 cm dal sensore anche a 400mm ! Una roba spettacolare che, se abbinato a un moltiplicatore 1,4x e tubo di prolunga permette di avere un rapporto di 1:1. Questo aspetto fa comprendere quale possa essere la versatilità di quest'ottica che non trova solo una sua vocazione nella fotografia di avifauna o di azione ma anche un ottimo impiego in ben altri contesti. Personalmente ne sto riscontrando ottimi risultati anche in ambiti di paesaggi urbani e il fantastico stabilizzatore ottico di 4 stops aiuta drasticamente lo scatto a mano libera. Riesco ad effettuare scatti nitidi perfino a 1/60 a 400mm ! Appoggiando i gomiti su un piano, sempre a mano libera, sono riuscito a scattare con incredibile nitidezza a 1/20 sempre a 400mm !! Roba d'altri mondi ! Lo stabilizzatore permette di essere impostato in tre modalità, garantendo un ottimo panning orizzontale e verticale e usabile anche quando l'ottica è fissata su cavalletto. Da segnalare totale assenza di aberrazioni cromatiche e nitidezza su tutta l'inquadratura su formato 35mm insieme ad uno sfocato cremoso garantito dalle 9 lamelle del diaframma e in più da segnalare un'ottima resa cromatica a cui Canon ci sta abituando con le ultime ottiche presentate sul mercato. Certo non è un peso piuma con i suoi 1570g ma per essere un 400mm è sicuramente un ottimo compromesso rispetto ad altri obiettivi di pari focale ben più pesanti. Sul lato autofocus, abbiamo come al solito l'affidabilissimo sistema Canon che non delude nella maggior parte dei contesti. Certo, con luce scarsa e scenari poco contrastati può tentennare leggermente ma la possibilità di messa a fuoco manuale continua aiuta a rimediare in una frazione di secondo nelle situazioni particolarmente critiche. Il nuovo paraluce con finestrella per regolare eventuali polarizzatori circolari e utilissimo e di ottima qualità anch'esso. Le gomme dello zoom e della messa a fuoco sono ottime al tatto e personalmente non ho trovato tutto questo problema a gestire un'escursione dai 100 ai 400mm con il sistema a rotazione piuttosto che a pompa come il precedente modello. La staffa dello zoom è robusta e facilmente rimovibile sebbene, come già segnalato in altri feedbacks, l'anello resta montato sull'ottica. In abbinamento allo zoom viene fornita un'apposita borsa con cinghia ed eventuale passa cinta (sebbene più di un kilo e mezzo attaccato alla cintura non lo vedrei una buona soluzione) e anch'essa presenta un'alta qualità costruttiva. Che dire, è un impegno economico non da poco ma sicuramente è un prodotto che dà tante soddisfazioni.

Diciamolo subito, il costo elevato è ampiamente giustificato dalla qualità a 360° di questo splendido zoom ! Qualità costruttiva al top, materiali veramente solidi in un formato alla fine relativamente compatto per essere un 100-400. Le caratteristiche tecniche le si trovano facilmente nelle schede informative ma ci tengo a evidenziare che questo zoom ha una distanza minima di messa a fuoco di solo 0,98 cm dal sensore anche a 400mm ! Una roba spettacolare che, se abbinato a un moltiplicatore 1,4x e tubo di prolunga permette di avere un rapporto di 1:1. Questo aspetto fa comprendere quale possa essere la versatilità di quest'ottica che non trova solo una sua vocazione nella fotografia di avifauna o di azione ma anche un ottimo impiego in ben altri contesti. Personalmente ne sto riscontrando ottimi risultati anche in ambiti di paesaggi urbani e il fantastico stabilizzatore ottico di 4 stops aiuta drasticamente lo scatto a mano libera. Riesco ad effettuare scatti nitidi perfino a 1/60 a 400mm ! Appoggiando i gomiti su un piano, sempre a mano libera, sono riuscito a scattare con incredibile nitidezza a 1/20 sempre a 400mm !! Ärgerliche Verdoppelungen und Verdreifachungen von Objekten, die die Aufmerksamkeit unweigerlich auf sich ziehen, gibt es hier nicht. Das war ein Punkt, der uns bei dem Canon EF 70-200mm 1:4,0L IS USM Objektiv sehr gestört hat. * Optik, Haptik, Bedienelemente _________________________ Schon das Auspacken war ein Ereignis: Das Canon EF 100-400 mm 1:4.5-5.6L IS II USM Kamera-Objektiv steckte gut geschützt in einem Canon-Karton. Mit ihren 1640 g ist sie wahrlich kein Leichtgewicht, schon gar nicht, wenn man ohne Stativ aus der Hand fotografiert. Schwer und wertig fühlt sie sich an. Auf die Canon 5D Mk II montiert sieht sie mehr als imposant aus. Zuerst haben wir uns mit der Handhabung vertraut gemacht. Die Schieberegler beziehungsweise Schalter sind im Vergleich mit dem Canon EF 70-200mm 1:4,0L IS USM Objektiv ziemlich gut zu ertasten und einfach zu bedienen, denn sie stehen noch ein wenig weiter aus der Oberfläche heraus. Ob sich der Zoomring leicht oder lieber etwas schwergängiger einstellen lassen soll, kann man individuell über den Smooth-Tight-Ring festlegen. Im Gegensatz zum Canon 70-200 mm – auf den Fotos zum Vergleich auf der Canon 500D zu sehen – ist die schwarze Gegenlichtblende nicht glänzend, sondern in mattem Schwarz gehalten. Details wie der Objektivdeckel überzeugen durch unkompliziertes Handling: Dieser lässt sich bei montierter Gegenlichtblende – auch mit größeren Händen – leicht abnehmen und wieder aufsetzen. Äußerlich erinnert er an die Objektivdeckel von unseren Tamrons. Bei genauerem Hinsehen zeigt sich jedoch eine deutliche Verbesserung gegenüber dem günstigen Konkurrenten: Kleine Griffkanten bieten den Fingern Halt. Die Gegenlichtblende ist mit einem roten Punkt versehen, sodass man sieht, an welcher Stelle sie auf der Linse angebracht werden muss. Wichtig ist, darauf zu achten, dass sie gerade aufgesetzt wird. Sie klickt hörbar ein. Wenn man sie abnehmen will, muss ein Knopf gedrückt werden. So kann sie sich nicht von selbst lösen. An einer Stelle lässt sie sich aufschieben. Durch dieses Fenster, ist es möglich, den jeweiligen Filter zu prüfen oder gegebenenfalls den Polarisationsfilter einzustellen, wenn die Blende auf dem Objektiv sitzt. Praktisch ist der integrierte Stativring im Objektiv-Tubus. Der Fuß kann abgenommen werden. * Fotografieren mit Canon EF 100-400mm 1:4.5-5.6L IS II USM Kamera-Objektiv _________________________________________________________________ Wählbar sind zwei Fokussierbereiche: entweder 98 cm bis unendlich, auf dieser Linse „Full“ genannt, oder 3 m bis unendlich. Bei bestimmten Aufnahmesituationen verkürzt die letztere Einstellung die Zeit zur Fokussierung. Macht man bei 400 mm Aufnahmen in der Ferne und geht dann aus dem Tele- in den Makrobereich, reagiert der Autofokus etwas träge. Es gibt drei Modi zur Bildstabilisierung. Empfehlenswert ist es, darauf zurückzugreifen, um das Zittern der Kamera-Linsen-Kombination auszugleichen. Besonders Modus 1 ist eine Offenbarung: Er kompensiert Vibrationen in allen Richtungen. Wir hatten nicht damit gerechnet, dass es so schwer sein würde, Kamera und Linse ruhig zu halten. Mit Modus 1 ist es wirklich deutlich einfacher. Selbst mit Bildstabilisierung muss die Belichtungszeit jedoch kürzer sein, oder man muss ein Stativ verwenden. In der Hitze des Gefechts – wir hatten diese Linse zum ersten Mal in der Hand – haben wir ab und zu auch vergessen, den Stabilisator mit dem Auslöser zu aktivieren. Konsequenz: Bewegungsunschärfe. Im Allgemeinen ist beim „Verfolgen“ von Vögeln in Sträuchern oder auf Bäumen die alleinige Verwendung des Autofokus wenig sinnvoll. Statt des ursprünglich anvisierten Tieres werden beispielsweise schnell Äste oder Blätter knackig scharf eingefangen. Falls der Vogel davonfliegt, muss man den entsprechenden Regler für den Autofokus schnell und möglichst blind erreichen können.
