The bag is 8 inches long and I use Faber-Castell brush pens. They are just over 5 inches long. I hope this helps **Q: can this pencil stand upright? how is the quality? i want to know if it'll be able to stand up right while i reach for my pencils and pens** A: If you stand it up it is not steady but a bit wobbly. I would not count on it. The quality, however is excellent **Q: Can anyone tell me what the outside zipper is made out of? The one without the black covering?** A: I believe it has nylon zipper teeth with metal sliders and pull tabs. I could be wrong because I gave the bag away to a friend. **Q: Does this have a loop to hang or clip it to something with a hook or key ring?** A: It does NOT have a loop/hoop/clip to attach it to anything. Even the zipper tags themselves don't have holes. Great product though!
