I’ve tried cheaper, less dense knock off starters and end up lighting twice or end up using 3 instead of 1. So the perceived savings of the cheaper options is diminished if not erased by the faster burning and smokier cheap options. I find the twisted strand burn too fast, the wax types work well enough, but they flake a lot and make a mess. These are really good. No mess, they burn well and consistently perform. I can count on a solid fire every time with these. I have bought more than one pack, and the product is consistently reliable. My only negative, which isn’t truly a fault of the starters, is that they do take longer to light and can be harder to get out in windy conditions. Yet, once lit they perform to my expectations. I feel comfortable recommending these to those who like charcoal cooking.
