They are filled with silicone grease which helps make them water-resistant, so you'll want to wear disposable gloves while you are installing them. I used them with 16/2 landscape zip wire and while they work fine with that gauge wire, getting the wire into the connector was a little challenging, what I finally wound up doing was pressing the wire into the little channel with some needle nose pliers and that worked great. Then on some of them, I'd have to squeeze the flap closed with pliers after I squeezed the little splice fork into place.
