Then feed the pointed end of the tool into the end of the cable tidy (yes it is quite fiddly and tight). Once you get the end inside, line up the 'handle' of the tool with the split between the leaves of the tidy and pull the tool, with the cables inside, with thumb and forefinger of one hand while holding the strip with the other, slowly through the tidy from one end to the other. Once you get it going it becomes quite easy. If any leaves of the tidy get distorted, they can be straightened out individually afterwards. I know it doesn't seem easy to start with, but once you have done it you realise how brilliantly designed the tool is for the job.
