Review: Safety harnesses can't protect from falling is you don't tie off. - I was a "female" safety supervisor at a local steel mill when I retired after 42 years. My company replaced safety belts with safety harnesses because of the injury potential safety belts presented. I bought these harnesses for my husband to wear when he bought an 80-ft JLG lift in order to trim trees. He's normally not a "this can't happen to me" person but in one situation he was. Thank goodness he didn't fall from 80-ft but only a couple of feet when he neglected to attach the harness from the lift and hit the wrong controls. The only thing he proved was you can fall from a lift (when the basket is a couple of feet from the ground) if you don't tie off.
