Review: Gatorade endurance formula - Love this endurance formula for my pre marathon training efforts. Great flavor and easy to mix. It does not upset my stomach. Keeps energy levels high and body feeling great during longer runs.
Review: taste is mild, which helps - I used this for my Ironman training, since Endurance is the product used on the course. At first, I found the flavor pretty gross--too salty. But that's why I was drinking it--to replace the salts lost through sweat. After consuming many, many servings, I have grown to like the taste. It's still salty of course, but if you are going to drink gallons of it during a workout or race, then you don't want a super-sweet sugary taste. This product's flavor is very mild, so it's not too sweet and I don't tire of it. Do you remember the old product called "Tang"? I used to drink it on mountain hiking trips. Anyway, the flavor reminds me of Tang, which always tasted like a water-down Cool-Aid.

## Questions & Answers

**Q: How many liters can you get from this product?**
A: The 2lb tub will make 38 12 fl oz servings by my figures that is about 14 liters the 38 servings is according to the label. The only product that helps my medical issues that are near fainting spells in nearly 30 years of experimentation searching for something that works for my inability of my system to absorb sodium.

**Q: triple the amount of *potassium?**
A: Yes. I use it for longer training sessions when I know I will lose a lot of fluids. The extra sodium and potassium are probably not needed if workouts are under 90 minutes unless they are in extreme heat/humidity.

**Q: What is the difference between this product and the Gatorlyte packets?**
A: Gatorlyte packets are a separate product, they are small packets meant to be mixed with another electrolyte drink (any brand) they have approx. 1000 mg of electrolyes, they are sold on Amazon. you can look at the nutrition information. I sometimes mix them with the drink but in the last couple of 70.3 Ironmans (San Juan and Silverman, both extremely hot) I would swallow the packet straight up (taste like filling your mouth with salt), then chase it down with a drink, I found this to be very effective in keeping the cramps away, if you can stomach it. Several years ago, I was racing Miami 70.3, I cramped up, I took one of these straight up, my cramps went away after a few minutes. It worked.

**Q: Is this kosher?**
A: Gatorade in general is kosher, but not necessarily kosher for Passover, as many of their products contain corn.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Possible to dissolve in water - see suggestions

UPDATE One Month Later - change of heart... I wrote a pretty negative review of the new GE formula powder a month ago. I gave it two stars based on the first container I bought of the new improved formula after many years of consuming quite a lot of the previous version. I really didn't like it at all. Gatorade reached out to me as a result of the review which is always appreciated of a manufacturer, however I have not responded to them yet so this update has not been influenced by them. I have now used five 32oz containers of the new GE formula powder in both Orange and Lime flavor, we have bought some from Amazon here and some directly from Gatorade. My update is as follows: (1) The color is certainly a lot lighter than the previous version. It is a white powder in the container but when mixed it does have a faint orange (or lime) color to it. Not a major observation but an update all the same. (2) The flavor is a lot more subtle for sure but does grow on you so give it some time. I would acknowledge now that it is possible to get used to the flavor and once used to it, is actually very difficult to go back to the old formula which suddenly tastes strongly artificial and overpowering. I have been using the new formula on back-to-back 120mile rides on successive weekend days and find is is a lot more palatable to consumer GE throughout without resorting to alternating with water to offset the strong taste. (3) Ah, the mixing in water thing. Quite a few other reviews since I wrote that a month ago have also commented on the fact that this new product seems to clump up and not dissolve properly. That was certainly my initial experience. Now I would say that if you put the scoops of powder in your mixing bottle bottle, lightly swirl the bottle as you fill it from the faucet, then once filled cap it and shake it vigorously for a few seconds, it appears to dissolve well enough. I think it is possible that my first container (or two) of new formula GE had an issue because I can assure you it clumped like crazy and would not dissolve at all. The later containers have dissolved better. So, I am revising my 2 star review to a 4 star review with an acknowledgement that the new formula, now that the clumping appears to be fixed, is a nice extension of the GE range. I will add one new observation which has become very apparent. The new formula is clearly a powder and not a granulated product like the old one. This means (a) there is a degree of powder that gets into the air as you fill the bottles and (b) each scoop potentially contains a higher weight of formula than the previous version since a powder by volume will weigh more than granules. I say this because we have seen our consumption of new GE increase significantly since the new formula has been introduced. This cannot be because we are consuming more (we know that for a fact) so can only be that we are getting less bottles of diluted GE than previously because more weight of powder goes into every scoop. Hope this update has been useful, original and unedited review below. We consume probably 4-6 containers of Gatorade every Tri season for IM training rides. I have got used to the 'classic' and unmistakable flavor of the Orange and the Lime powder mixed Endurance Formulas. The new formula that is listed here and launched recently (?) has three key differences (aside from any composition differences): (1) It does not have an orange or lime color to it any more. The powder is white, regardless of flavor (haven't tried cherry). So OK, I get that this is completely synthetic and the colorant is probably unnecessary but at least when I mix orange gatorade in my bike bottles it at least looks like orange. Not a huge issue on its own so lets move to the next point: (2) It tastes very dull and not pleasant to consume in quantity. I cannot describe it any other way. It tastes like the drink you are given to mix and drink a gallon of when you need to have a colon medical exam or similar. OK so you can drink it down but it doesn't have a pleasant flavor at all. When you are doing century training rides at some point you are going to get sick of whatever flavor drink/gels/bars you are putting into your system, but at least they can taste reasonably good for the first few hours. This new formula tastes pretty awful from the first mouthful. (3) - and this is the worst issue by far - it doesn't mix easily in water. Yes, I'll repeat that as it was a huge surprise to us too. This new formula seems to have difficulty dissolving in water. So when you mix your bottles and head out on your training ride, at some point you are going to get a mouth full of lumps of undissolved powder. Which, taking into consideration point (2) above, tastes bad anyway. Its not an enjoyable experience at all. The only solution we have found is to keep shaking it like crazy when you mix it, like 10X more effort than with the old formula. And then, later as you drink the bottle down, keep shaking it even more and hope you don't get a mouthful of a powder lump. I am sure there is a good reason for the change and the marketing will never use terminology such as 'lower production cost' or 'easier to manufacture' but this user (and his wife) have gone from being huge fans of Gatorade Endurance Formula powder to being completely switched off by it. To finish more positively, the premixed bottles of GE at Ironman events continue to be awesome and have not had these changes applied.
