Review: Better than a MRE, better than my ex-wife's cooking. - I'm used to eating Military MREs and bad ex-wife food. While I wouldn't regard this as restaurant quality food, for something that's portable and has an extended shelf life with easy prep it's actually pretty good. The biggest challenge with "emergency food" is how easy is it to prepare and do you actually want to eat it when it's ready? This was easy to make and although we preferred some of the selections to others, everyone agreed they would be willing to eat it again. A couple of these could be made as a "side dish" for a meal and most people wouldn't notice a difference between it and "regular" grocery store food.

## Questions & Answers

**Q: Would they be good to store in a car? California weather hot summers, cool winters. If so, how long is the shelf-life?**
A: I store these in our RV which includes hot summers and cold winters in a plastic sealed storage container.  I have not had any issues.  I can't speak to the shelf life as we have generally consumed them within a year or 18 months of purchase, but since they are freeze dried, I believe they have an extended shelf life.  While they aren't gourmet dinners, they truly aren't bad tasting.  I carry some premixed spices in Ziploc bags to add some additional flavor.  Best wishes and safe travels.

**Q: How much water is needed to make the entrees? Per food serving? Per the entire amount of food in package?**
A: Half the amount shown on the package....of which I cannot currently check as they are packed away in a bugout box. But it's not much...1/2 to 3/4 cup? But use only half of what is called for. If you mix it what they suggest, it becomes a sloppy, goopy mess and the flavor is very bland. Mixing half the water seems to make it look more like it should, texture more pleasing and the taste is more consistent and flavorful. BE AWARe----THIS IS A VERY, VERY HIGH SODIUM product. Anyone with blood pressure/heart/kidney/liver issues will have a hard time staying healthy if relying on this for survival. Most products are, but if you look around, you can find some equal quality foods with 1/3 of the sodium levels.

**Q: Does it taste good?**
A: Have as a backup food supply so I never tried it . I guess in an emergency , taste won't matter . Hope this helps !! 25 year shelf life is a good thing .

**Q: is this taste ok? and is it worth it?**
A: No it’s vile. Every Ready Wise I’ve tried was absolutely terrible. Plus they tend to be more expensive than some of their better tasting competitors. IMHO these guys are selling people stuff that people will buy put on a shelf and never use. So they’re safe producing a terrible tasting product. I literally was unable to gag down a full serving of any of their “food”.

Bought several containers through Costco (better price than ANYWHERE), but in regards to the sample pack, it was better than I expected. The cook times and amount of water is completely different than the instructions say, however because it's really just a trial and error with water. It was easy enough to cook a little longer to soften the noodles, or steam off some of the excess water, or add some extra water to get the right consistency. The flavors themselves were better than I expected. Interestingly enough, I don't recommend trying to add anything, spice-wise, to doctor it up. I tried with just a little bit of salt and pepper and it didn't enhance it nor mix well. It gave it a bit of a funky flavor. So, it pretty much is "you get what you get." Still, it's not bad, and if you're looking for true long term storage and survival food for the "Red Dawn," no need to be picky.
