I normally will detach the clip-on lanyard (for wrist or neck) when not using it, leaving just the loop & ring. Since the loop is just a flat loop of fabric ribbon, it lays pretty flush, except for the ring, which is also small enough not to be a hindrance. I have no idea what kind of charger you have, but I charge mine vertically in a stand frequently with no problems, but that is using a cord. If it doesn't work for you - and it likely would - you can pass it along/re-gift it to someone; it is a great essential and I am sure anyone would be happy to inherit it! As long as the lanyard isn't on, you should have no issues. Looks like most phone stands/chargers have some minor clearance at the base for such things. Check yours and you will likely see that. Still totally glad I chose this kit! It is great, sturdy and no problems. **Q: What is the width of the neck strap?** A: Just by eye balling it, I would say just under an inch in width.
