After much searching I decided to give Shift Shade a try and I was very pleased with my purchase, the room is completely dark! This product works so well that when you wake up you don't even know what time of day it is. Installation is also easy and quick As a side note, this is a great company with great customer service! We had a minor issue with one of the shades and I sent an email to the company on Sunday afternoon and received a reply almost immediately. A designer suggested black out lining on our curtains. Yay, right? No, not yay. Blackout lining on curtains allows in so much light it's ridiculous, at least for my dark-craving kiddos. My next step? Ordering these babies. They were a cinch to install and block any and all light! It's so pitch black in my kids' rooms now that I regularly walk into walls after I have kissed them goodnight and turned off their bedside table light. THAT IS DARK, people. I can also vouch for their customer service department who helped resolve an issue I kept having keeping the bottom pole in place. There is not much else I can say! ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Works *by D***L on July 3, 2012* Starting with the negative: installation is horrible. They really need to come up with a better way to install this fabric. Maybe they should contact companies that make blackout drapes and sell this technology to them so that it could be pre-sewn onto drapes. Anyhow, I didn't bother with the rods. I was prepared to be inventive with installing these since I had read many reviews. So, All I did was measure the window and cut it about 2 inches bigger; I then used push pins to install it. Another good idea would be to sew a pocket and use a tension rod to install it. I don't have a sewing machine or I would have probably done that. Another thing I wasn't happy about is that it says it covers a window that is 38x72, so I ordered two of these. I come to find out the seller includes extra fabric (which is really nice actually), but it would have been nice to know the exact dimensions of the fabric since people install it differently and in the end, I only needed one order of this to cover two windows. Okay, now for the positive: this stuff truly works. I have purchased blackout drapes two times in the past. The most recent blackout thermal drapes that my toddler & preschooler have do not help in the least bit. Both kids have east-facing windows, so when the sun comes up, their room is bright and hot. The morning after I installed these, I could immediately tell a difference in the temperature of their rooms. And their room is pitch black! I personally love that because it's easier for them to nap during the day as well. So, yes: this helps keep out the light and heat; I'm sure it'll also work to keep out some of the winter cold as well.
