We work to assure that the bone pieces are ground down and have specifications for the amount, size, and shape of the bone contained in the cans/pouches. Rabbit and duck are good alternatives to the usual chicken and turkey. So a better question is, "Where do all the raw ingredients come from?" ## Customer Reviews ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Saved my step-daughter's cat's life... *by on Reviewed in the United States July 20, 2026* With nearly all cat food containing one of the three biggest culprits to feline food allergies/intolerance (beef, chicken, and fish) it is absolutely imperative that products like this exist. When you feed a cat chicken, or any protein source that comes in a bag or can, year after year after year, the chances that they will become intolerant to that source of protein is extremely high. Worse, if that intolerance is not met with a limited ingredient diet the chances of IBD skyrockets - and when that is not met with a limited ingredient and single source protein food cancer than becomes very risky. I lost my boy to this due to allowing myself to myopically focus on his CKD and thyroid issue (I switched him to a pricey handmade food via delivery but my mistake was that it was not limited ingredient). Years later now my step-daughter's cat also has, not only intolerance, but the associated IBD. I cannot caution you enough to a) always leave a protein as novel (meaning one their immune system has not come into contact with, and b) to really become aware of the epidemic that is chicken and fish in cat food; there is a reason it is so prevalent and it has nothing to do with what is optimal nutrition for your cat - it's cheap and it's readily available. More than that, often it is byproduct and will state that fact (chicken byproduct) or it will list the protein as [chicken]meal... It is a massive issue - even if they were putting organic human-grade cage free chicken in the food. Despite the ridiculous price of this item, I cannot thank Instinct enough for making it available and to Amazon for being so diligent about keeping this item stocked. Lastly, if your feline relies on a limited ingredient food always, always, always ensure you have enough stock on hand to see them through any supply chain hiccups - their very life may depend upon it. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Kitty with stomach issues *by on Reviewed in the United States May 13, 2019* So I see a lot of bad reviews on here. Some saying the recipe changed and others saying their pets don’t like it or it arrived damaged. My pets love this food however they had also eaten other flavors of the limited ingredient that they didn’t like as much. One of my cats has an extremely sensitive stomach and I have been through so many different foods. He would be fine for a bit then get bouts of diarrhea it was awful. I use this food in combination with the limited ingredient rabbit hard food and his stomach seems to be better than ever. I wish I could give less of the soft food and more of the hard food but he also has bladder issues so the soft food is better. Don’t get me wrong this food is extremely expensive but it works for my cats and I feel like it’s healthier for them. The hard food is literally black and has definitely turned their poop a very dark brown but I called the company and they said this is normal. I take my cats to their yearly exams and all is well!
