It is wide, lighted brightly, and comfortable in the hand. It has a nice heft/weight - it uses 3 batteries that last us about a year. One for the kitchen, one for the sewing studio, a workbench, and one for the office - used frequently. Wish they came in different colors so if they get out of place, we'd know which room it belongs. With this magnifier, I can read the tiny print without squinting and feeling like I'm at the optometrist office trying to read the bottom line without my glasses. I don't understand why so many instructions and coupons and even some magazines will use a font size that is less than 8 point. Perhaps the printers are trying to save paper or hide what is written. I got an instruction leaflet for another product recently and I couldn't even figure out which section was written in English because the type size was so tiny, until I reached for this magnifier which I keep close by my desk. I have not noticed any distortion or problem with the lens clarity. The batteries that I put in 6 months ago are still working. I had no problem installing the batteries or getting it to work. The battery cover fits well and is easy to get on and off. The amount & quality of light is perfect. The light switch is easy to click on and I like that it stays lit until I push the light switch again to turn if off. Be aware that this is fairly heavy, and the lens section is heavier than the handle so I would imagine that it gets uncomfortable/awkward to use for long periods like when reading a book.
