Review: I am utterly amazed at the performance of this product - The first image shows a before and the images #2 and #3 show an after. I don't know the exact spot I marked on the before image so I took two showing the full length of leather I treated here. The last two show the difference between before and after in the same image. The top portion of each images is treated and the bottom isn't. Notice the scuff marks and dark grayish color of the bottom section. All the leather I treated had the look of the bottom section. I bought this product because I'm in the process of making a leather belt bag out of black oil tanned leather but the leather has been sitting for a few years, so the leather wasn't in the best of condition. I went to the place I bought the leather to show them the issue to see if they can recommend a product to get rid of the spots and other marks on the leather and they gave me a leather conditioner, which did condition the leather but didn't really help hiding the spots. I'm spending a lot of time on this bag for myself and want it to look like I put my best effort into it so I started looking for black no gloss shoe polish, which I don't think exists since I couldn't find any and then I found this. I treated another part of the leather earlier and followed the instructions for applying and then buffing after but it didn't have a shin like with show polish, which is exactly what I was looking for. There was kind of a semi-gloss, for lack of a better term, which was fantasico. I was looking for somewhere between a matte to semi-gloss finish, which this is. The after images above were taken immediately after application but I ran my fingers across the treated area and it was completely dry with absolutely no transfer to my fingers. The dye was completely absorbed by the leather. I used a sponge from a different source as opposed the the one that was included but it was a similar texture. I didn't want to use the included sponge in case I needed to return the product but I won't be doing that now after I see how well it works. I kept on rubbing the product into the leather until it didn't have that wet shine any longer and then a little bit more, which for this length of leather (about 1.5" x 8" give or take) took only a couple of minutes if that long. I am completely 100% happy with my purchase and will do it again if I need more of this but I think this should be sufficient for me to complete the bag I'm working on and then some. I would highly recommend this product to anyone trying to restore the finish on black oil tanned leather products like motorcycle saddle bags that have been affected from adverse effects of being out in the weather. I can't comment on how well this product does at moisturizing the leather since I had already treated these portions of leather with a conditioner from a different company so your results might vary. I can only comment on how well it removes ugly blotches and scratches on the leather. I do have one very minor complaint: I noticed that when pouring out a bit of the product on the leather or sponge, it comes out more than I wanted to each time I did it. More than likely it's because I'm just not used to the viscosity of the product but I would have liked there to be some restriction on how much comes out of the bottle, maybe utilizing a smaller hole on the cap. This stuff goes a long way so the area I was looking to treat above should have been able to treat it with just three or four drops. This isn't a deal breaker though and feel it'll just take a little getting used to but it is something potential customers need to be made aware.

## Questions & Answers

**Q: Would this work on a Corbin motorcycle seat?**
A: Works great on any smooth black leather. I've used it with great results on my couch, steering wheel, motorcycle boots, motorcycle gloves, etc.

**Q: I wish to recolor the black leather strap handles of my briefcase. Curious if color will not bleed onto my hands when carrying the case?**
A: Once the Doc Bailey cures, I don't think that it will bleed...! I used it on my motorcycle seat and other leather accessories and I never had an issue. Just make sure it is fully cures...!

**Q: Could I use this to dye my brown leather belts black?**
A: It will probably work for that. May not be a dark black as if you started with a black leather however, I think it would work.

**Q: I had a spot on my blacl leather car seat. Now it is lighter then the rest if the seat. Will this bring the color back to where the spot was to match**
A: Not sure about a car seat but I had a black leather briefcase and duffle bag (both with severe scuffs and scratches) which after application and buffing, they both look fantastic. So odds are... Probably! I've used it in old leather wallets and shoes and works great on all...

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Doc Baileys black leather restore
*by A***R on March 19, 2026*

Works as described, used on my worn motorcyclejacket. I forgot to do before and after pictures. It came out good.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Truly amazing product!
*by O***Y on July 2, 2021*

I've used various conditioners on riding gloves throughout the years and was always disappointed in the end result. The gloves either felt saturated, stiff, downright ugly, or nothing like they felt like when new. I really like the feel and suppleness of well-finished leather. So I was skeptical about this product, but the many great reviews, plus recommendation of this product by Fox Leather (they make excellent motorcycle jackets, gloves, etc.) convinced me to try it out. I have a very old pair of deerskin gauntlet gloves that have seen tens of thousands of miles, plus a newer pair of elkskin gloves that had faded quite a bit, plus a pair of thin deerskin summer gloves that were also fading and drying out. This Doc Bailey's product was a complete mind blower! It restored the black color, it restored lost suppleness, and it pretty much returned the 'feel' of the gloves to what they were like when new. Not completely like new, but pretty darn close. Amazing! Somehow, this stuff managed to thoroughly penetrate the leather instantly and set up, yet didn't make the gloves feel like they're soaked with oil. NOTE: Wear nitrile gloves when applying! Henceforth, this will be my go-to product. My girlfriend is bringing over her favorite black shoes that are scuffed up and I can't wait to restore them. I'm sure she'll be thrilled. I really didn't think a product like this existed. Thanks Doc Bailey's for coming up with such a great formula! Update: The shoes came out GREAT! Both pairs look like new, literally. And she can be picky.
