Placed just inside of the structure, and sometimes they catch a little rain which does not ruin them, but continuous rain would probably not be a good idea. They work, though, even placed where I have them; definitely deter the carpenter bees. **Q: Do these work with mud wasps as well as paper wasps?** A: For me these work great as a resting spot for the wasps before the venture to the hummingbird feeders. So no, they don't work at all. **Q: Will these deter honey bees from drinking at my pool?** A: I am going to say probably not since I still have bees and wasps visiting my yard just continuously or nesting. However they may help with the amount of bees and time they spend in your yard. So I dont want to discourge you. Perhaps more research or ask a beekeeper for a tip or two. (If your local grocery store or health food store carry honey from a bee keeper in your area you can get their info from the jar of honey. Hope I somewhat helped you goodluck **Q: Do these work for carpenter bees?** A: No! The carpenter bees flew in & out and they did NOTHING to deter them. They drilled holes literally right next to these decoys. Citrus spray works better. I made my own, but it has to be applied frequently and filtering the spray was time consuming. I read wind chimes help but have not yet tried. ## Frequently Bought Together - 4 Pack Wasp Nest Decoy Hanging Wasp Nest Stay Away from Wasps Hornets Yellow Jackets - 3 Pack Wasp Traps Outdoor Hanging, Solar Bee Trap for Outside, Bee Wasp Catcher Outside Garden - RESCUE!
