Totally silent - no noise from the hands moving. Several different colors. If you are putting it on a very narrow ledge, it may not work. The ledge we have is 3-1/4" deep - that is the minimum you would need so it doesn't sit at the very end of the ledge and will fall off. Love it! Uses I believe on battery. I'm sure its described. Just don't want to disassemble now that I sat back down to do the review!!!! Oh, yes, the alarm sound is at the perfect decibel; and there is a little button in the back to light up the face.
