## Overview

Peptide by Genius Games is a compact, strategy card game that accurately simulates protein building from amino acids using mRNA translation. Designed for ages 10+, it blends STEM education with engaging gameplay, making complex biology concepts accessible and fun for students, teachers, and science enthusiasts alike. With 2-6 players and a 30-45 minute playtime, it’s perfect for classrooms, family nights, or casual gaming sessions.

## Description

Peptide is strategy card game game, modeled accurately around the process of building a protein chain! Throughout the game, players compete to collect amino acids and the matching mRNA nucleotides, then link those amino acids side by side to increase the length of their protein chain and score points. Each round, a number of organelle cards (such as nucleus, mitochondria or ribosome) are flipped face up in the center of the table for all players to see. Players take turns selecting organelle cards that either (1) provide resources (like ATP from the mitochondria or mRNA from the nucleus) or (2) allow players to build onto their protein chain. As the game progresses, players will continue to add amino acids to their protein chain. The player with the protein chain worth the most points at the end of the game wins; Peptide is great for the Science classroom or a game night with family and friends. Its fast paced, interactive, and encourages players to think strategically to optimize their protein Strand while attempting to hinder opponents. All the concepts covered in peptide are concepts that would be introduced in a basic High School Level biology course. And it does so in a way that is fun and intuitive for everyone! Peptide was created by a Professor of game design who is also a chemical engineer and science teacher! Genius Games is a stem-centered publishing Company that creates high-quality tabletop games and children's books. We demystify intimidating concepts in the sciences through the thrill of play. We engage players in a lifelong process of Inquiry by rewarding curiosity with fun. Play: Ages: 10 plus players: 2 - 5 time: 30-45 mins science concepts covered in peptide: mRNA to protein translation, polypeptide chains, proteins, amino acids, Vacuole, mitochondria, nucleus, ribosome, mRNA, tRNA, ATP

Review: Love this Game! - I really love this game to help my children learn about cell processes! They have been studying about cells and organelles and this game helped them talk about and practice what organelles do. They already learned about DNA transcription and translation and loved building the peptides. It really helped them consolidate their knowledge and we had a lot of good discussions about why the methods within the game play and why it was designed that way. Not only was the game super easy to learn, but also really fun! Right after playing it - they already wanted to play another round. The game is small and doesn't take up a lot of space - so we were able to take it with us and play it in a hotel. I love all the Genius Games and have played them with 10-12 year olds, as well as with other adults - and the games are consistently a hit! Thank you! Huge fan!
Review: Decently easy to learn and teach to others. Scoring is easy - I really like this one and was disappointed when we got to the Stop Codon signaling the end of the game. I really appreciate that this game was decently easy to learn and the end game scoring wasn't complicated. This one should be easier to learn and teach to others compared to Cellulose or Cytosis.

## Questions & Answers

**Q: Can you use organelles more than once per turn? it's unclear from the rules but seems like you get as many atp fueled actions as you can pay for.**
A: Each Organelle card awards that action only ONCE. So, for example, you could NOT use one AminoAcyl card and pay 4 ATP to pick up two Amino Acid cards. You could only use that one AminoAcyl with 2 ATP to pick up one Amino Acid card. The rules are very exact when they say, "Pay two ATP Tokens; Pickup the top..." which means pay two and then pick up. If you could use it multiple times, by paying 4 or 6 ATP Tokens, then the rules would say pay two "per" action, or make this clear. This point is made even more clear in the ATP actions. You CAN perform as many ATP Actions on a turn as you wish. And the rules make it very clear that you can do this by saying "may pay multiple times to perform multiple actions..."

**Q: are the contents different in the reprint from the original? (contents seems to have changed, like 36mRNA cards instead of 48, no vacuole track?)**
A: That's correct. In this edition, the Vacuole track was removed and the there are fewer mRNA cards. The end game score is slightly different as well.

**Q: I don't see where it says how many atp tokens you start with. any help? or what do you do? thanks!**
A: Actually, you don't start with any ATP in this set of rules. However, when we reprint the game, we will have each player start with 2 ATP at the beginning of the game. So you could start with two if you wanted. If you are playing the advanced version, I would also suggest starting the energy on the Vacuole Track at 4 rather than 3.
