This set up worked through the end of the season (2-months). The next season the pilot light was not staying lit. I readjusted the thermal coupler and the system worked for a month or two. Since over a full year had passed, I wondered about the gas valve going bad again, since the thermal couplers were giving pretty good 30 m-Volts reading on bench tests. I decided to buy the whole pilot light fixture as offered here, new hood and thermal-couple, designed and engineered for each other. Perhaps the old pilot-light gas line was plugged, though there seemed to be plenty of gas. The new system worked like a charm and I now suspect a new gas valve was never needed in the first place. That is, the new thermal coupler that the lay HVAC person bought was not an exact match for the fixture it was going into.
