In fact whenever you have them in a pressing motion they are extra secured, meaning they would not fall off even without the pin (of course not recommended). They are comfortable to grip and use. You may touch your forearm to the crossmember at times during certain movements (like wrist curls) but for the most part they work just like regular dumbbells. I have IronMaster dumbbells and these are a great addition for lighter weights.
