I tried my CD and the sound is really nice so glad because my CD player broke on me so now I can play my CD's once again. Next I tried a DVD and the picture and the sound are really good. My only complaint is that the remote is not the best. It lags a bit and you must be kind of close to use it or at least in my home. But overall for the price this is a nice little machine. Manual not great, but ok. No digital display on unit but on screen display ok for seeing how long you’ve been watching and how long left, once you figure out how to use it yourself — it has six different displays before turning off display. Captions are really hard to master as well. Manual is pretty useless. Once you play with it for a bit, it is ok. It does resume where you left off. Rewind is ok, but sometimes hard to stop and get playing again. So, adequate for us because we don’t watch a lot of dvds and the price was great. Small size is very nice.
