If he is activated he rolls around. I do also have the smaller app-enabled version which comes with a stand and would fit perfectly on a desk. We tried saying "go find Luke Skywalker" but it responded differently each time. Mode setting 2 is voice reactive and it does respond to human voice commands. The body is a bit heavy which keeps it upright while it moves around. The body does not roll but instead it has a wheel that moves it around while its head rotates. I love the details on this toy as it is very movie accurate, the markings, its off-white color and its antenas. Overall, the toy is excellent but don't purchase this if you want a BB-8 that can roll its body.
