A: I would be difficult for this device to lock on its own since you need to lift it out of the locked position to open and close it.

**Q: Does it come with hardware?**
A: Yes it comes with mounting screws.

**Q: Do the door & door frame need to be even for this to work? My door frame is at least .5" higher than my door.**
A: The door jamb needs to be next tot he door where it is installed.

**Q: Can this be installed on a steel door frame?**
A: Yes, but, you might need to supply the correct screws for the steel door. the screws included are for wood.
