The hair has to go through a hole and the blade behind the foil cuts it then. As opposed to the electric razors with those 3 circular thingamajigs on them that kinda pinch the hairs, this cuts smoother in my opinion. While I would not be using said cord for hanging, it would have been nice to have on there anyway so I could put it around my wrist for extra stability when holding, as there are times my hands decide they want to take a break and think it's okay to just involuntarily drop whatever I'm holding (ask me about the half a gallon of milk that ended up on my floor a few years ago...).Not coming with that is not a deal breaker, but I am removing one star for that reason - as I assumed it had one.I don't know about the reported/listed "wet/dry" capability. I don't shave hair when it's wet, nor do I shave in the shower (it's a sensory thing) - so some other reviewer can speak to that.The battery compartment was a bit confusing, as I could not really see the arrow on it showing which way to turn it to open it. That is about the only part of this (the turnkey mechanism), that I feel may poop out before anything else.I do want to say, PAY ATTENTION, and be mindful with the cap and the battering compartment. They do fit on a certain way, so if it's not working out - don't force it!
