To determine which corrective optical lens is right for you, check the prescription details provided by your eye doctor. You'll see corrections listed for each eye -- OD (your right eye) and OS (left eye), followed by positive and negative dioptric values for SPH (sphere, the lens power to correct nearsightedness or farsightedness) and CYL (cylinder, the correction for astigmatism). Take the SPH value and add half of the CYL value to get the suggested optical lens (for example, a -5 SPH and a +1 CYL would calculate as -4.5).
