Did 2 bike racks & 2 kayak racks.. bikes bought seperately...I put together by myself..took some time but I had that... a senior female!! :-) **Q: How robust are the wheels and bearings for high-speed interstate transport?** A: The trailer is great quality and the wheels and bearings are more than adequate for highway travel. I have had no problems with my trailer. **Q: Can the kayak carriers be individually removed? I want to put a bike rack in place of one of them.** A: Yes. The carriers are bolted individually to the bars, similar to any roof rack. You can mix & match. Put a cargo box a bike carrier and a kayak carrier if you want. BTW, if you are definitely not going to use all four carriers, you may want to get the trailer with the two kayak attachments (MPG461G2) and then order the bike carrier and the third kayak carrier separately.
